Big Sister

Averie officially became a big sister! We welcomed Rylie Paige Cornet on December 19, 2015 at 10:57am, weighing 5lbs 14oz and 19 1/4 inches long. Averie was very excited to meet her sister and tickle her toes. We are all adjusting to our new family of 4 but Averie is a great big sister and loves to watch "her baby" and have a sippy cup of milk whenever Rylie eats.

Thanksgiving 2015

Thanksgiving is always my favorite holiday and has only gotten better with the addition of Averie's birthday to the week. It's so great to be surrounded by family and good food. We had a full house this year with the Silks & Nana Carol flying in from Atlanta, Rapkins from CT/NY, Melissa from Hong Kong and the Cornets, but that is what makes it a holiday! As usual everyone was put to work in the kitchen and the week ended with cake for breakfast to celebrate Lewis' birthday!

October 2015

We had a busy October filled with lots of family, fun and travel! Alexis and Averie took their first flight just girls to CT to spend a few days with the Rapkins. It was so nice to get a taste of cooler fall weather, foliage and activities. We had fun outside harvesting the garden with Go, apple picking, and playing on the tractor. and making challah with Go. It is so sweet to see Averie follow around and play with Go and Goma.

From CT we met Jason in New Jersey for cousin Ashley's beautiful wedding, where Averie was a flower girl. It was a beautiful day and great to see all of the family and have them meet Averie. She loved her dress and playing with the older kids.

And of course October means Halloween. Averie wanted to be a monkey, or as she refers to them, who who, kind of like the sounds they make. We went trick-or-treating to a few houses in our neighborhood and she enjoyed the candy going into her bucket. When we weren't looking she got into Reese's peanut butter cup and went mmmm. Sounds like she inherited mommy's sweet tooth ;)

1st day of Preschool

Today was Averie's first day of preschool! How did our little girl grow up so fast?! We have been talking to Averie and reading books about starting school to prepare us. The concept of orientation with a toddler seemed so strange but she loved seeing her new classroom and exploring all of the learning centers. Her favorite are the kitchen (in true Rapkin form), painting/art, and reading on the mini couch.

It was really nice that the school broke up the class so the first few days were for 1 hour with 2 other children for maximum hands on time with the teachers. Averie didn't even cry! Unfortunately, the same can't be said for her first real day today. I was naively confident dropping her off and having her say bye-bye mama. Then, I got the dreaded call that my child wouldn't stop crying despite a happy send off. I should have known from our picture this morning she wasn't so sure about this school thing. Hoping tomorrow will be a better day since she did have fun the other days and is still happy talking about school.

Mother's Day 2015

Despite having the best intentions to keep Averie's blog up to date so that family and friends can see what Averie is up to, I have been slacking. We are just so busy with all that she into that the time just gets away from us. We had a wonderful and low key Mother's Day. Averie gave me the best gift of sleeping in until 7:30 and taking a 2 1/4hour nap, which for her is unheard of! Jason made a delicious breakfast and spent the day together, while cooking dinner for us and his family. We tried to capture a few pictures to remember it by, but Averie is always on the go! Despite the girlie outfits and obsession with shoes, Averie's favorite activities are playing outside in dirt, mulch, rocks and sprinklers.
